In a significant move for one of Bollywood’s most successful franchises, the makers of the spy thriller `Dhurandhar` are reportedly planning to sell the broadcast rights for both installments as a single package. This strategic decision aims to maximize revenue from television and various digital platforms well before the second film, `Dhurandhar: The Revenge`, makes its theatrical debut.
The Dhurandhar Phenomenon
The first `Dhurandhar` film, starring a stellar ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, premiered in December 2025. It quickly emerged as a major commercial success, earning acclaim for its intense plot, ambitious scale, and robust box office performance, establishing itself as one of the year's standout Hindi films. The sequel, `Dhurandhar: The Revenge`, is gearing up for a highly anticipated Pan-India release in March 2026, with interest remaining exceptionally high.
Strategic Broadcast Deal Takes Shape
According to a public notice in `Complete Cinema`, director Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios are actively working to secure a comprehensive license. This license will cover exclusive linear transmission and retransmission rights across a broad spectrum of platforms, including:
• Satellite channels
• DTH (direct-to-home) services
• IPTV (internet protocol television)
• Cable networks
• And other related media for both `Dhurandhar` films.
A source close to the negotiations revealed to Mid-Day that discussions with satellite channels have already commenced. While the first part is slated to begin airing from March 31, the second installment, which hits cinemas on March 19 (March 2026), will only be available on television screens approximately 117 days – roughly four months – after its theatrical release.
Why a Combined Package? Industry Insights
Trade analysts view this combined broadcast strategy as a shrewd business decision, reflecting strong confidence in the franchise's enduring appeal and commercial viability. Industry veteran Taran Adarsh, quoted in the Mid-Day report, highlighted the rationale behind bundling the rights:
• “If true, it’s a practical decision.”
• “Sometimes in the past, producers have clubbed two or three projects together.”
• “That way, they are assured of getting a good amount.”
• “Since Dhurandhar has broken many records, the makers can demand what they want.”
This approach assures producers a substantial return, leveraged by the first film's record-breaking success. The broadcast strategy is currently in the negotiation phase, with the team finalizing transmission deals for global territories, excluding China, Taiwan, and Macau. Neither the makers nor Jio Studios have issued official statements regarding these media deals as negotiations continue.
