The inheritance dispute concerning late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s estate, valued at approximately Rs. 30,000 crore, continues to be examined by the Delhi High Court, with the matter currently at a procedural stage.
On December 16, 2025, proceedings before the Joint Registrar, Delhi High Court, were limited to the completion of pleadings. Court records reflect that Priya Kapur had already filed her replies in the matter, following which the opposite side was directed to file its rejoinders. No arguments were advanced, and there was no adjudication on the merits of the case during the hearing.
The court is yet to hear and decide on applications relating to the Will dated March 21, 2025, including pleas seeking forensic examination of the document. These issues remain pending consideration and are scheduled to be taken up at a later date.
Separately, questions have been raised in court filings regarding the role of Shradha Suri Marwah, who has been named as the executor of the Will. Applications concerning amendments and related procedural aspects are also pending and will be addressed by the court in due course.
Senior counsel Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur—Sunjay Kapur’s children from his previous marriage—has submitted that under Indian succession law, the validity of a Will and the appointment of an executor are matters that require judicial scrutiny. These submissions are yet to be examined by the court.
The Delhi High Court is scheduled to take up the pending applications, including those related to the Will, on January 20, 2026.
For context, Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in Windsor, England. The succession proceedings pertain to the distribution of his estate and remain sub judice, with no findings recorded by the court at this stage.
