Netflix's upcoming Indian corporate drama, *Family Business*, has generated buzz and immediate comparisons to global hits like *Succession* and *Billions* since its announcement on the Next On Netflix 2026 India slate. However, director and co-creator Hansal Mehta has strongly refuted these parallels, labeling them as "lazy comparisons" and asserting the show's unique identity.
Hansal Mehta Shuts Down 'Succession' Parallels Addressing the early reactions, Hansal Mehta clarified that appreciating shows like *Succession* or *Billions* doesn't mean every story about power or family dynamics is a remake. He drew an analogy, stating, "It’s the same as calling every crime saga The Godfather, or every political drama House of Cards." Mehta firmly stated that while a corporate backdrop might invite superficial similarities, *Family Business* is neither inspired by nor adapted from *Succession* in any aspect.
A Wholly Original Indian Series Mehta emphasized the show's distinct origins and narrative: "A corporate backdrop may invite surface-level comparisons, but Family Business is not adapted from, inspired by, or remotely similar to Succession in its story, plot, or characters. It is a wholly original Indian series, drawn from multiple Indian corporate battles and family dynamics unique to our culture." Despite his admiration for international shows in the genre, Mehta stressed that *Family Business* stands on its own, "rooted in a very different socio-cultural, emotional, and economic world."
Plotting the Corporate Power Struggle
• Family Business* is positioned as a high-stakes drama centered on a ruthless corporate succession war within one of India’s most powerful business families. The plot follows a visionary billionaire who initially selects a successor, only to reclaim control months later. This action triggers a brutal battle for power, characterized by betrayal, fractured alliances, and the uncovering of long-buried secrets within the family empire.
Behind the Scenes and Star-Studded Cast The series is a collaborative creation by Hansal Mehta and Niren Bhatt, with Mehta also taking on directing duties. It is produced by Abundantia Entertainment and True Story Films. The ensemble cast features a lineup of prominent actors, including Anil Kapoor, Vijay Varma, Akash Khurana, Rhea Chakraborty, Neha Dhupia, Anant Nag, Kanwaljit Singh, Raima Sen, and Madhoo Shah, among others.
With its announcement already sparking considerable debate and anticipation, *Family Business* is set to arrive on Netflix in 2026, promising a compelling and original Indian corporate drama.
