Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma recently made headlines with a surprising comment about gangsters targeting him during the Netflix What Next event in Mumbai. While celebrating his long association with the streaming platform alongside Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content, Netflix India, Kapil’s quick wit took an unexpected turn.
After Monika Shergill light-heartedly remarked about audiences across India having their eyes on him, Kapil responded with a tongue-in-cheek comment: “Ek do mulkon ke gangster bhi lage hue hain aaj kal.” This remark quickly became the talk of the event, interpreted by many as an indirect reference to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Behind the Controversial Statement
The comedian’s comment was widely understood to allude to the ongoing challenges he has faced concerning his overseas business ventures. The sensitivity of the statement was apparent, as Kapil, realizing the live broadcast, humorously requested videographers to cut the segment, though cameras continued to roll.
Attacks on Kap’s Café in Canada
Kapil Sharma’s Canada-based restaurant, Kap’s Café, which he opened in 2025 with his wife Ginni Chatrath in Surrey, British Columbia, has been the target of multiple attacks. The establishment has been struck by gunfire on three separate occasions within four months—in July, August, and October of last year.
• Incident Details: These incidents caused significant property damage but thankfully resulted in no reported injuries.
• Alleged Perpetrators: Associates reportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi network, including Goldy Dhillon and Kuldeep Sidhu, have publicly claimed responsibility for these attacks via social media. They also issued stark warnings to the general public to steer clear of the restaurant’s location.
Kapil Sharma’s Stance on Security Issues
Previously, Kapil Sharma had addressed these incidents, highlighting his perspective on the local policing and governance in Canada. During a press interaction for 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2,' he noted that the matter had escalated to the federal level in Canada. He stated, “When our case happened, it went to the federal government… Just like we have our Central Government here, the matter was discussed in the Canadian Parliament.”
On the professional front, Kapil Sharma continues to entertain audiences. He was last seen in ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’ and remains the popular host of ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ on Netflix, maintaining his strong presence in the entertainment industry despite personal challenges.
