Salman Khan Secures Interim Order Against Abhinav Kashyap in Defamation Suit

A Mumbai civil court has granted an interim order, temporarily restraining filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and others from making or publishing any defamatory statements against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and his family. This crucial development provides significant interim relief in the defamation lawsuit filed by the actor.

The Defamation Lawsuit Against Kashyap The defamation suit, filed in a city civil court, names Abhinav Kashyap, Komal Mehru, Khushboo Hazare, and various social media platforms as defendants. Salman Khan has sought a permanent injunction against further comments and damages totaling Rs 9 crores, alleging that a series of interviews and podcasts contained statements that were “scandalous, false, and grossly defamatory.” The actor's legal team contends that these statements targeted both his professional integrity and personal character.

Court's Ruling and Freedom of Speech Judge P.G. Bhosale issued the interim ad-interim ex-parte order, emphasizing a balanced view on constitutional rights. While acknowledging freedom of speech, the court firmly stated that it does not permit the use of “abusive or threatening language” against an individual or their family. “Nobody can and nobody should make any defamatory statements against anybody’s family,” the court asserted, underscoring the importance of protecting each person’s privacy and reputation.

Details of Alleged Defamatory Content The core of the lawsuit revolves around approximately 26 video interviews and podcast episodes published between September and December 2025. During this period, Kashyap reportedly made various remarks against Salman Khan and his family members, which the suit claims were highly damaging and defamatory in nature.

Temporary Restraint on Defendants As part of the interim direction, the court has temporarily barred the defendants from engaging in any activities that involve making, uploading, publishing, reposting, hosting, or circulating any further allegedly defamatory content concerning Khan and his family. This injunction will remain in effect until the defendants appear before the court and file their official responses to the notice of motion, ensuring protection for Salman Khan during the ongoing legal proceedings.
