Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj, a dynamic duo known for their impactful collaborations like Kaminey and Haider, are set to captivate audiences once again with their fourth venture, O'Romeo. This highly anticipated film, featuring an ensemble cast, a compelling trailer, and a soulful yet peppy music album, has already generated significant buzz. Releasing on February 13th, O'Romeo recently completed its censor process, and Bollywood Hungama brings an exclusive look into the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decisions.
O'Romeo has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate, marking it as Shahid Kapoor’s second A-rated film after his critically acclaimed performance in Kabir Singh (2019). Despite its adult rating, the CBFC mandated several significant changes to the action entertainer.
Dialogue Changes
The Examining Committee of the CBFC initiated multiple alterations to the film’s dialogues:
• The word 'Item' was notably replaced with 'Kumari'.
• At four other instances, a specific word was replaced, though the cut list does not provide further details on these particular changes.
• An 'inappropriate' word was requested to be deleted from one scene.
• Another word was muted at a different point in the film.
Violence & Intimacy Adjustments
Interestingly, the romantic and intimate scenes in O'Romeo remained untouched by the censor board. However, several violent sequences faced the censor’s scissors:
• A close-up visual of throat cutting was reduced by 20%, cutting 3 seconds.
• Two separate shots were reduced by 2 seconds each: one depicting close-up visuals of 'bloodshed head hitting' and another showing blood squirting on a woman’s face.
• A 'woman slapping visual' was also trimmed by 20%, resulting in a 2-second reduction.
Disclaimers and Final Run Time Mandatory anti-tobacco and anti-smoking tickers were added to the film. The length of each disclaimer, including its voice-over, was increased, cumulatively adding 1 minute and 57 seconds to the film's overall run time.
Following these extensive changes, O'Romeo received its censor certificate on February 11th. The final certified length of the film stands at 178.41 minutes, translating to 2 hours, 58 minutes, and 41 seconds. This makes O'Romeo the lengthiest film in both Shahid Kapoor’s and Vishal Bhardwaj’s collaborative careers, promising a grand cinematic experience.
