Actor Govinda recently opened up about a harrowing incident where his Mumbai residence was allegedly surrounded by a group of 22-23 individuals. The Bollywood star recounted the chilling episode, revealing that he had to personally intervene after repeated attempts to contact local police reportedly went unanswered.
A Late-Night Intrusion
Govinda described how he spotted the large group approaching his house late at night. Initially, he thought they might be guests for a party, but their demeanor quickly suggested otherwise. Realizing the potential threat, he took action:
• He captured video footage of the suspicious group.
• He attempted to contact the Mumbai Police but could not get through.
• In desperation, he called the police of "another country" for assistance.
Escalation and Self-Defense
The situation escalated when one of the individuals climbed onto his terrace, confirming his suspicions that something was amiss. Govinda, who possesses a licensed firearm, retrieved it and confronted the intruders.
"Who are you?" he recalled asking. After a moment of silence, one person offered a dubious explanation: "We’re here to fix the power system." Unconvinced by their lingering presence and the illogical excuse, Govinda pointed his gun and commanded them to leave. The group, reportedly not expecting such a response, dispersed.
Manager Confirms Death Threats and FIR
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Govinda's manager, Shashi Sinha, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the actor has been receiving death threats. Sinha stated, "Thank god he had a gun with him the day he got attacked. He chased everyone away. Otherwise god knows what would’ve happened to him. I rushed to him at 4 am. We also filed an FIR. We also have a video of what happened that night."
Govinda's Reflection
Despite the traumatic experience, Govinda expressed his choice not to dwell on the incident, viewing it as a distraction. He emphasized an actor's role is to perform, not to react to every societal provocation, though he acknowledged the risks of prolonged silence.
This incident also brings renewed attention to Govinda's firearm ownership. In October 2024, the actor was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the foot while cleaning his licensed gun at his Mumbai home.
