Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel is currently facing a non-bailable warrant issued by a Moradabad court. The warrant stems from a 2017 breach of contract case, where the actress allegedly failed to appear despite multiple summons. This development has brought an old legal dispute back into the spotlight, drawing significant attention to the 'Gadar 2' star.
The Allegations: A Breach of Contract
The case originates from a complaint filed by local event organiser Pawan Verma. According to Verma, he had booked Ameesha Patel to perform at a wedding ceremony on November 16, 2017, in Moradabad. The complaint outlines several key details regarding the alleged breach:
• An advance payment of Rs 14.50 lakhs was made to Ms. Patel for her appearance.
• Accommodation and meal arrangements were specifically made for her at a hotel in Moradabad.
• Despite the arrangements and payment, Patel allegedly did not travel from Mumbai to attend the scheduled event.
Following the no-show, Verma claimed the actress assured him of a full refund, initiating a payment dispute that would eventually escalate to legal action.
Escalation: Payment Dispute and Legal Action
Verma's complaint details the subsequent payment issues. While Rs 10 lakhs was reportedly returned in cash, the remaining amount of Rs 4.50 lakhs was issued via a cheque. This cheque, however, subsequently bounced, leading Verma to seek legal remedy through the courts. The court issued multiple summons for Ameesha Patel to appear in connection with the case. Her repeated failure to appear on the scheduled dates ultimately led to the recent issuance of a non-bailable warrant, aiming to secure her presence in court.
Ameesha Patel's Strong Rebuttal
Responding to the news, Ameesha Patel took to Instagram Stories to address the situation. The 'Gadar 2' actress vehemently stated that the case is an “old and settled matter.” She further asserted that her legal team would initiate criminal proceedings of cheating against Pawan Verma.
In her statement, Patel wrote, “Media reports suggest about certain proceedings at Moradabad by one Pawan Verma. I wish to inform one and all that this is avv old matter which was years back in which the said Pawan Verma had signed a settlement deed and received the entire agreed amount.” She concluded by adding, “Despite this it seems he has lodged proceedings making false allegations. My lawyers are initiating appropriate criminal proceedings of cheating against this person to expose his lies while I prefer to focus on my work and ignore people who choose to make a public spectacle for gaining attention on false pretexts.” The legal battle is expected to continue as both parties stand firm on their claims.
