Actor Rajpal Yadav has made a significant payment of Rs. 2.5 crore in connection with his long-running Rs. 9-crore cheque bounce case, confirmed by his lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay. This crucial development comes after the Delhi High Court ordered the actor into judicial custody until at least Monday, pending a hearing on his interim bail plea. The recent payment marks a pivotal moment in a legal battle that has kept the popular Bollywood actor in headlines for over a decade.
The Cheque Bounce Saga: A Decade of Legal Troubles The origins of this complex legal case trace back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav reportedly borrowed funds for his directorial debut, "Ata Pata Laapata." Unfortunately, the film did not perform well at the box office, leading to the loan amount escalating into a substantial financial liability. Over the years, numerous cheque bounce complaints were filed against the actor. Currently, Yadav is serving a six-month jail sentence, having surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5 after his last-minute plea for relief was rejected by the high court.
Recent Financial Movements and Court Directives
• According to his lawyer, Bhaskar Upadhyay, Rs. 2.5 crore has now been paid towards the outstanding amount, with negotiations reportedly underway on a 2012 agreement.
• On February 2, the Delhi High Court had previously directed Yadav to deposit Rs. 1.35 crore in each of the seven pending matters against him.
• The court also noted that two demand drafts totaling Rs. 75 lakhs had been deposited in October 2025, although a substantial amount remained unpaid.
