Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade and twelve others are currently under investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Mainpuri district, following an FIR registered in connection with an alleged investment fraud. The case highlights concerns over purported schemes promising substantial returns.
Details of the Alleged Investment Fraud
The complaint, filed on February 10, accuses Talpade and his associates of defrauding a resident of Mohalla Mishrana in Bhogaon of lakhs of rupees. The alleged scam involved promoting an investment scheme with promises of exceptionally high profits.
• The accused reportedly operated what was presented as a “Mumbai-based bank branch” locally.
• Villagers and local residents were encouraged to invest money, enticed by assurances of significant financial gains.
• When investors later attempted to withdraw their funds, they were reportedly unable to recover their principal amounts, leading to the formal complaint.
Police Action and Charges
The Bhogaon police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections pertaining to cheating and fraud. Authorities are actively examining the full extent of the alleged scam and working to determine the specific roles played by all individuals named in the complaint. The court-directed registration of the FIR signifies the official commencement of legal proceedings.
Past Allegations and Ongoing Investigations
This incident is not an isolated one concerning alleged financial irregularities involving Shreyas Talpade. Last year, his name emerged in a separate case in western Uttar Pradesh, where hundreds of investors claimed they were duped by a cooperative society. This society allegedly leveraged the names and images of various film personalities, including Talpade, in its promotional activities to attract investments. Investigations into that matter remain ongoing.
As of now, the police have not provided specific details regarding Talpade's alleged involvement in the Mainpuri case beyond confirming the FIR registration. No arrests have been made, and the comprehensive investigation continues to unfold.
