Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan finds himself in a significant legal controversy after his first wife, Ranjana Jha, lodged a formal complaint against him and others. The complaint, filed on Tuesday, February 10th, at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul, Bihar, outlines serious allegations dating back decades, including an alleged medical procedure performed without her knowledge or consent.
Marriage and Initial Deceit Allegations
In her written application, Ranjana Jha, identifying herself as the 61-year-old daughter of Chandrakant Jha, stated that she married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984, under traditional Hindu rites. Her complaint details a timeline of events leading to the current situation:
• Udit Narayan left for Mumbai in 1985 to pursue his music career.
• Ranjana later learned through media reports that he had married another woman, Deepa Narayan.
• She alleges that Udit Narayan consistently misled her whenever she confronted him about his subsequent marriage.
Shocking Claims: Unconsented Uterus Removal in 1996 A central and deeply disturbing part of Ranjana's complaint relates to a hospital visit in 1996. She claimed that she was taken to a hospital in Delhi by Udit, accompanied by his brothers Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha. During this visit, her uterus was allegedly removed “under the pretext of medical treatment” without her knowledge or consent. Ranjana further stated that Deepa Narayan was present at the hospital at that time.
Years of Alleged Neglect and Mistreatment
Beyond the aforementioned allegations, Ranjana Jha also accused the celebrated singer of ongoing neglect and mistreatment over the years. Specific instances she cited include:
• Being denied entry into his Mumbai home in 2006.
• Being insulted by family members during a visit to relatives in Nepal.
• She previously approached the Family Court and the Women’s Commission but felt her complaints were not properly addressed, leading her to file the current police complaint.
Ranjana Jha's Plea for Justice and Ongoing Investigation Speaking to reporters, Ranjana Jha expressed her distress, stating, “You all know that Udit Narayan ji repeatedly makes promises but does not fulfil them. I deserve justice.” The police officer in charge has confirmed that the complaint is under active investigation and an FIR will be registered as facts emerge from the inquiry. As of the current report, Udit Narayan has not publicly responded to these serious and wide-ranging allegations.
