The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a non-cooperation directive against Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, following a complaint by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar regarding his alleged withdrawal from the much-anticipated film 'Don 3'. This move comes after Ranveer Singh reportedly pulled out of the project just three weeks before its scheduled shoot, leading to significant financial losses for the production.
The Complaint Against Ranveer Singh
Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, also head of IFTDA (Indian Film & Television Directors' Association), detailed the sequence of events. Farhan Akhtar, joined by Ritesh Sidhwani, filed a complaint highlighting Ranveer Singh's abrupt departure from 'Don 3'. Despite repeated attempts to contact Ranveer Singh for his version of the story, he allegedly did not respond. His team eventually sent an email challenging FWICE's jurisdiction in the matter.
FWICE's Stance and Workers' Rights
FWICE President Birendra Nath Tiwari emphasized the federation's commitment to protecting the interests of both workers and producers. He stated:
• A film's sudden halt affects thousands of workers' employment, causing substantial losses.
• FWICE aims to ensure no superstar is above industry rules.
• The federation has a history of taking balanced decisions, supporting producers when they are affected.
Non-Cooperation Directive Issued
In light of Ranveer Singh's non-responsiveness and the gravity of the situation, FWICE has put in place a non-cooperation directive. This means:
• All FWICE members, including directors, cameramen, spot boys, and lightmen, will not work with Ranveer Singh.
• This directive extends to ad films, as they involve the same pool of industry professionals.
• The directive will remain active until the dispute is resolved and Ranveer Singh meets with the federation to discuss the issue.
• FWICE has urged other producer associations to lend their support to this directive.
Farhan Akhtar's Compensation Demand
Ashoke Pandit confirmed that Farhan Akhtar is seeking a substantial compensation of Rs. 45 crores from Ranveer Singh. This amount has been thoroughly accounted for and audited. Farhan Akhtar's team has offered Ranveer Singh the opportunity to review the figures and raise any discrepancies.
FWICE has expressed its readiness to facilitate a meeting between Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Ranveer Singh, and all relevant bodies to achieve a positive and amicable resolution to this significant industry dispute.
