The much-anticipated biographical drama, Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor as the legendary Lavani performer Vithabai Narayangaonkar, has recently been embroiled in a title controversy. While political leaders and some family members reportedly raised objections to the film's name, a significant clarification has emerged from Vithabai's own family.
Vithabai's Daughter Supports Film Title Mangala Bansode Karavadikar, Vithabai Narayangaonkar's eldest daughter, has publicly expressed her support for the film's title, Eetha. Her statement comes amidst reports of objections from Vithabai's sons, Kailash and Rajesh Narayangaonkar, and grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar.
• No Family Objection: Speaking to The Times of India, the 75-year-old Tamasha artiste and President's Award recipient clarified, "We have no objection to the film's title. I have spoken with Mohit and have requested him to not give out any further statements on the same."
• Significance of 'Eetha': Mangala further explained the historical significance of the name, revealing that her mother was often affectionately referred to as "Eetha" by people in the villages where she performed. This crucial detail was shared with director Laxman Utekar during his extensive research for the film.
Addressing the Broader Controversy The clarification from Mangala Bansode Karavadikar directly addresses the ongoing discussion. Earlier, political leaders, including members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had objected to the title, suggesting the biopic should be named after Vithabai Narayangaonkar herself. Mangala's remarks indicate that at least one of Vithabai's closest family members supports the makers' creative decision, believing the title carries historical and personal significance.
About the Film Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, Eetha promises to be a compelling portrayal of Vithabai Narayangaonkar's life. The film features Shraddha Kapoor in a transformative role, which has already garnered praise since the release of its teaser. Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub are also part of the pivotal cast. Eetha is scheduled to release in theatres on August 28, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festive weekend.
