Netflix's much-anticipated series, The Royals Season 2, is reportedly facing significant production hurdles after director Jasmeet K Reen, known for 'Darlings' (2022), exited the project mid-way. Reen had joined the second season, replacing Nupur Asthana from Season 1, alongside Priyanka Ghose.
Behind the Director's Exit
Sources close to the production reveal that Jasmeet K Reen's departure stemmed from an alleged altercation with producer Rangita Nandy. Witnesses on set described a 'humiliating' incident where Nandy reportedly addressed Reen over a loudspeaker, audible to the crew. "No director worth their salt will tolerate such behaviour from anyone," a source commented, highlighting the severity of the alleged incident.
Production Stalls and Uncertainty
Following the reported altercation, the shoot for The Royals Season 2 was abruptly stalled. Many cast and crew members reportedly returned to Mumbai, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the project's future. As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding Reen's return to the set, leaving fans and the team in suspense.
The Path Forward: Nitya Mehra to Take Charge?
With Reen's sudden exit, director Nitya Mehra, who was co-directing with Reen, may now have to shoulder the responsibility of helming the entire season alone. Crew members have expressed mixed feelings, acknowledging both directors' capabilities.
• "Both Nitya ma’am and Jasmeet ma’am are very good."
• "Jasmeet ma’am directed Darlings; she clearly knows what she is doing."
• "The entire crew is hoping she also comes back and continues the show."
The next schedule is anticipated to commence soon in Udaipur, and all eyes are on whether Mehra will lead the project solo or if a resolution will bring Reen back.

Despite the production drama, the series promises an exciting ensemble cast:
• Ishaan Khatter returns as Maharaj Aviraaj from the first season.
• Sini Shetty is reportedly joining as the new female lead.
• Gurfateh Pirzada also becomes a part of the Season 2 cast.
