Border 2 Advance Booking Chaos: Exhibitors Reject Anil Thadani's Toxic-Dhurandhar 2 Clubbing Demand

As Border 2 gears up for its solo release on January 23, the film's advance bookings are surprisingly lagging, causing anxiety among fans and industry insiders alike. While the movie is expected to be a major draw, 100% advances across all centers remain elusive, leading to speculation about the reasons behind the delay. Bollywood Hungama delved into the matter, speaking with exhibitors to uncover the core issue.

The Controversial Deal: Toxic & Border 2

Sources reveal that the delay stems from producer Anil Thadani's attempt to bundle the showcasing of Border 2 with his Eid 2026 release, Toxic. Thadani has reportedly demanded at least 50% of screen shows for Toxic during Eid, directly clashing with the highly anticipated Dhurandhar 2.

Exhibitors' Stance: Theater owners have flatly refused Thadani's offer. They argue that Dhurandhar 2 is a significantly hotter film and splitting showcasing would be detrimental to its potential.
Border 2 Support: While exhibitors are willing to offer complete support for Border 2, they are unwilling to compromise their Eid 2026 commitments for Dhurandhar 2.
Impact on Advances: This deadlock has resulted in Border 2's advances not opening fully across multiple centers, as Thadani's team seeks commitments for Toxic, despite exhibitors' clear refusal.

Exhibitors' Plea for Fair Play

Trade sources indicate that exhibitors have urged Anil Thadani to avoid a clash with Dhurandhar 2, emphasizing that both films are strong and deserve solo releases. Dhurandhar 2, being the 'flavour of the season,' is seen as meriting a solo run.

Toxic's Potential: Exhibitors believe Toxic is a strong film that should also be released solo to maximize its potential.
Unfair Clubbing: The industry views clubbing Border 2 with Toxic as unfair, stressing that they are distinct films from different banners. This strategy has already created a 'ransom' situation in January due to a potential March clash.
Call for Resolution: Exhibitors are requesting makers to intervene and ensure full-fledged advance bookings for Border 2 are opened immediately, without the entanglement of future release commitments.

Current Situation and Outlook

As of now, Border 2's advance booking is only open at approximately 1500 screens, leaving many centers awaiting a full rollout. While trade insiders anticipate a resolution soon, exhibitors remain firm on not signing any future showcase commitments that could jeopardize their Eid 2026 plans. All eyes are now on the key stakeholders to swiftly resolve this standoff and pave the way for Border 2's smooth release.
