The Middle East conflict has led to widespread travel disruptions, directly impacting Bollywood personalities. Joyce Arora, mother of actress Malaika Arora, is currently stranded in Dubai following the cancellation of her return flight to Mumbai.
Escalating Regional Tensions
Joyce Arora's predicament stems from the escalating tensions across parts of the Middle East. The disruption follows:
• Iran’s reported retaliatory attacks on US allies in the region, including the UAE.
• These attacks were a response to American and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory on February 28.
• The situation has resulted in temporary suspension and rescheduling of numerous flight operations.
Joyce had traveled to Dubai to celebrate her elder sister's birthday, followed by her own birthday on March 2. Her scheduled return to Mumbai on March 3 was halted by the flight cancellation notification.
Joyce Arora's Experience in Dubai
Despite the gravity of the situation, Joyce expressed a sense of security while in Dubai. Speaking to ETimes, she remarked, “I must say, I feel safe here. In fact, I could see the missiles being intercepted in the sky with my own eyes. It was frightening, but the Dubai military is doing a fantastic job.” She also highlighted the constant communication with her daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, who are in Mumbai and checking on her well-being frequently. With some flight operations gradually resuming, Joyce remains hopeful for a swift return home.
Other Celebrities Affected
Joyce Arora is not an isolated case. The travel disruptions have affected other Indian celebrities as well:
• Esha Gupta: The actor was also stranded in Dubai during the escalation but successfully returned to India on March 3.
• Lara Dutta: The former beauty queen and actor shared a detailed video describing the tense atmosphere in Dubai. Lara, who has been in Dubai since the conflict began, witnessed explosions and missile interceptions while shooting. She expressed gratitude to UAE authorities for ensuring residents felt protected. Lara is currently in Dubai with her daughter, while her husband, Mahesh Bhupathi, is traveling for work.
