Riding high on the success of Border 2, producer Nidhi Dutta has announced an exciting five-title slate for JP Films, the esteemed banner founded by her father, filmmaker JP Dutta. Revealed during an interview with Variety India, these projects span diverse genres, including powerful military dramas, a gripping war hero biopic, a personal digital series, and an adventurous treasure-hunt franchise deeply rooted in Indian history and mythology.
The Highly Anticipated Military Slate
The cornerstone of the new slate is Border 3, currently in early development in collaboration with Bhushan Kumar. Nidhi Dutta emphasized that this third installment signifies JP Films' "continued commitment to telling stories of bravery and national pride on the biggest possible canvas."
Another significant project is a biopic on war hero General Harbaksh Singh, who valiantly commanded the Indian Army during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1966. The film aims to narrate his courageous story and "bring an important chapter of Indian military history to a new generation."
Completing the military projects is a contemporary Air Force drama. Set during and after Operation Sindoor, this film promises not only scale and action but also a deep dive into the personal and emotional costs of service, making it "ultimately a deeply human story about duty, family, and sacrifice."
New Ventures: Franchise & Family Legacy
Venturing into a new direction, JP Films is developing a large-scale, three-part treasure-hunt action-adventure franchise. Conceived as the first entry in an expansive series, this project is expected to be among the first to move into production, marking Nidhi Dutta's debut as a writer in this genre.
The slate also includes a long-form digital series on her grandfather, filmmaker OP Dutta. Described as the studio’s most personal project, this series will explore a story of "perseverance, passion, family, and an unwavering belief in cinema despite immense challenges, and the journey of my family legacy."
Nidhi Dutta confirmed that production timelines are being finalized, with several titles from this ambitious slate slated to begin shooting in the coming months. Individual announcements detailing each project are expected to follow soon.
